Top 5 Dance Movies
Lai Rupe's Choreography Presents:
Watching movies that include your personal hobbies and interests are always more entertaining, because you can connect to them on a different level and enjoy them in a deeper way. Thinking about this, I tried to narrow down my Top 5 Favorite Dance Movies and here is what I came up with!
Newsies!
#1 Best Dance Movie Ever - Newsies!
Read it in the "papes," Disney's Newsies is ranked #1.
This was an easy first choice for best dance movie ever made. They rest are not in any particular order, as I love them all.
The dancing in Newsies is simply phenomenal, I mean look at those guys go! The choreography is flawless and enticing, not to mention it is based on factual events that tells a great story and inspires you to want to make a difference in the world. There isn't a single part in Newsies that doesn't just blow me away.

Classic & Favorite!
STEP UP 1
^ With that being said, Step Up 1 is one of my all time favorite dance movies as well. All of the Step Up Movies have some incredible dancing and I simply LOVE watching the choreography and dancers performed. However, I could easily do without the dramatic interludes Step Up boldly displays.
I wish they would make a Step Up movie that solely consisted of dancing.
Let's be honest, with Dance - You don't need words!
Step Up 1
Mary Poppins
What can I say, I love the Disney classics.
Now most people probably wouldn't think of Mary Poppins as a "Dance Movie," but you have to admit it has some pretty great dance scenes in it! "Step-In-Time" is one of my all time favorites!
Mary Poppins
First Position (Ballet Documentary
First Position
Now, let's take it up a notch with a more serious dance documentary, "First Position." This inspiring, motivating dance documentary walks you through the lives of some amazing dancers as they overcome obstacles in life to be professional ballerinas. It will make you want to push yourself to be a better, stronger, more determined dancer!
JIG! (Irish Soft Shoe)
JIG
This is such a fun, happy, and inspiring dance documentary, all about Irish Soft Shoe and Hard shoe dancing. I used to perform in the group "Celtic Beat" until I was 17 and just fell in love with the intense, hard, technical, but extremely fun dance style of Irish Step.
You will absolutely fall in love with the curly hair and bright costumed dancers in this absolutely riveting Irish dance documentary, Jig.
